POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting an Intermediate P&ID Designer to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6)The Intermediate P&ID Designer will be working closely with engineers and other stakeholders to create detailed BFD, PFD, and P&ID technical drawings for gas compression and process equipment, pipelines, and related components. The Intermediate P&ID Designer utilizes computer-aided design (CAD) software and other tools to create and modify drawings, ensuring adherence to project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. Reporting to the Drafting Supervisor, the Intermediate P&ID Designer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to review design requirements and contribute to the optimization of system performance and efficiency. The Intermediate P&ID Designer's attention to detail, technical proficiency, and knowledge of gas compression and process principles contribute to the successful execution of projects and the delivery of high-quality designs that meet client expectations.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

DESIGN & ENGINEERING (Weighting 60%)

Design & Layout

  • Collaborate with engineers and senior designers to develop detailed BFD, PFD, and P&IDs for gas compression and process equipment, pipelines, and related components.
  • Prepare BFD, PFD, and P&IDs using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering codes, standards, and project specifications.

Integration of P&IDs

  • Evaluate vendor proposals and technical specifications to ensure compliance with design standards and project specifications.
  • Assist in the selection and integration of piping components, such as valves, fittings, and supports.
  • Work with other design disciplines to ensure seamless integration of P&IDs - with the overall project.

TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION (Weighting 20%)

Process Flow & Piping Design

  • Create process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) to illustrate the flow of gases, fluids, and control systems within the compression system.

Documentation & Reporting  

  • Ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to drafting standards and industry codes.
  • Implement design modifications based on review outcomes to optimize piping systems' safety and performance
  • Maintain accurate records of design changes, approvals, and project milestones.

QUALITY ASSURANCE & COMPLIANCE (Weighting 20%)

Design Integrity & Compliance  

  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards in the design of gas compression and process equipment, pipelines, and related components.
  • Conduct quality checks and reviews of design deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to specifications.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers, and procurement specialists, to ensure alignment of design deliverables with project requirements and timelines.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing design input, status updates, and technical support as required.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders, addressing design-related inquiries, and providing technical guidance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Engineering Design & Drafting Technology (EDDT) or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of gas compression and process equipment, pipelines, and related component design principles.
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD or CADWorx.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards, such as API, ASME, and ANSI.
  • Understanding of process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment selection criteria.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for collaborating with team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage priorities effectively.
  • Continuous learning mindset and willingness to stay updated with industry advancements.
