Startec Compression and Process is currently recruiting a Senior Civil/Structural Designer to work at our Glenmore Office location (Suite 240, 4000 Glenmore Court SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 5R8). The Senior Civil/Structural Designer will be responsible for the design and development of civil and structural engineering projects for compression and process facilities. Reporting to the Drafting Supervisor, the Senior Civil/Structural Designer will be responsible for providing innovative and efficient solutions for various components, including foundations, buildings, supports, and other infrastructure critical to the successful operation of systems. Collaborating closely with engineering teams, project managers, and stakeholders, the Senior Civil/Structural Designer will lead the preparation of detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The Senior Civil/Structural Designer will be instrumental in mentoring and guiding junior designers, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Additionally, your attention to detail and adherence to quality will contribute to the successful delivery of projects, meeting client expectations and enhancing the overall performance of Startec's Compression & Process facilities.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT & DRAFTING(Weighting 50%)
Design & DraftingTop of Form
Lead civil and structural design for compression and process equipment and facilities, covering foundations, supports, and related infrastructure.
Produce detailed design drawings and specifications using CAD software like AutoCAD.
Develop 2D and 3D models, sections, elevations, and construction details.
Collaborate with engineers to interpret project needs and convert them into precise drawings.
Generate structural layouts, foundation plans, elevations, and detailed sections based on project requirements and industry norms.
Ensure adherence to relevant codes, regulations, and quality standards throughout the design and drafting process.
Structural Analysis & Calculation
Collaborate with engineers to perform structural analysis and calculations, determining load capacities, stresses, and material specifications.
Analyze and interpret engineering data, codes, and standards to ensure compliance with safety and design regulations.
Apply principles of structural engineering to create designs that are structurally sound and meet project specifications.
DESIGN QUALITY CONTROL & COMPLIANCE(Weighting 30%)
Quality Control & Review
Conduct comprehensive quality checks on design drawings to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.
Review and validate the completeness and accuracy of design documentation prepared by other team members or external consultants.
Take the lead in resolving design-related issues or discrepancies through effective communication and coordination with the project team.Top of Form
Technical Documentation
Establish and maintain an organized library of design drawings, project files, and related documents for easy reference and retrieval.
Lead and oversee the compilation of design packages, drawing sets, and construction documentation for submission to clients, regulatory authorities, and construction teams.
Coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure the timely delivery of design deliverables.
Prepare progress reports, design summaries, and presentations as required.
Compliance & Standards
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards during the design and drafting process.
Coordinate with engineers and project managers to address design requirements and incorporate changes or revisions.
PROJECT COLLABORATION(Weighting 15%)
Project Coordination
Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to seamlessly integrate civil and structural designs into larger projects.
Participate in design review meetings and provide input to optimize designs and resolve potential issues.
Review project specifications, drawings, and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Collaboration & Communication
Effectively communicate and collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
Address design-related queries and offer technical support during project execution.
Contribute to interdisciplinary coordination meetings, sharing insights, and coordinating design changes as necessary.
Provide regular progress updates and reports to project stakeholders.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT (Weighting 5%)
Mentorship & Training
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior designers, supporting their professional development and growth.
Conduct training sessions to enhance the team's skills and knowledge in design software and best practices.
