BEHAVIORAL ASSESSMENT:
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Journeyperson Millwright must possess a strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding techniques, coupled with a commitment to safety protocols. This position demands a proactive approach to equipment reliability and a dedication to minimizing downtime, contributing significantly to the overall efficiency and productivity of Startec Compression & Processes operation. Additionally, collaboration with other team members, adherence to maintenance schedules, and compliance with industry standards are integral aspects of this role. This position requires a dependable, detail-oriented, and technically proficient individual to excel in this essential position within Startec Compression & Process.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):
MACHINE UPKEEP & MAINTENANCE (Weighting 70%)
Machinery Installation:
- Use precision measuring tools to ensure precise alignment and leveling of the machinery. Proper alignment is crucial for the long-term performance and longevity of the equipment.
- Securely anchor the machinery to the foundation or mounting points, using appropriate fasteners and techniques to prevent movement during operation.
- Assemble the machinery components according to the manufacturer's instructions. This may include attaching motors, belts, pulleys, and other accessories. Ensure that all connections are secure and properly torqued.
Maintenance & Repairs:
- Execute scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, including lubrication, belt adjustments, and cleaning, to keep machinery in optimal operating condition and extend its lifespan.
- Conduct thorough visual and operational inspections of machinery to identify wear, damage, or potential issues. Develop inspection checklists and procedures to ensure systematic evaluation.
- Replace worn or damaged components, such as bearings, seals, belts, gears, and shafts. Ensure that replacement parts meet specifications and are properly installed.
- Use precision measurement tools to align machinery components accurately. Adjust and calibrate equipment to maintain proper tolerances and prevent misalignment-related issues.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems, electrical faults, and hydraulic or pneumatic system malfunctions. Systematically identify root causes and develop an effective solution.
Blueprint Reading & Drawing
- Ability to recognize and understand common symbols and notations used in mechanical drawings, such as weld symbols, dimension lines, and geometric tolerances.
- Accurately read and understand dimensions and tolerances specified on blueprints.
- Ability to read assembly drawings to understand how individual components fit together to create larger machinery or systems. This includes recognizing fasteners, connections, and assembly sequences
- Proficiency in reading detail drawings that provide close-up views of specific components, including threads, gears, bearings, and other intricate parts.
Alignment & Precision Work:
- Perform precise alignment of machinery components to ensure they are correctly positioned and function optimally (Shaft Alignment, Coupling Alignment, Coupling Alignment).
- Ability to work within specified tolerance levels to achieve proper alignment. These tolerances are typically defined in engineering drawings and equipment manuals and may vary depending on the type of machinery and its application.
Welding & Fabrication:
- Employ welding and fabrication skills to repair or modify machinery components, including fabricating brackets, hangers, or structural supports, and welding metal parts as needed.
COMPLIANCE (Weighting 15%)
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintaining detailed records of safety inspections, equipment maintenance, and repairs
- Accurately documenting any modifications made to equipment or machinery, including welding repairs or structural changes
- Reporting any safety incidents, near misses, or violations of safety protocols to supervisors or safety officers.
Quality Assurance
- Conducting inspections to verify that equipment installations or repairs meet engineering specifications and industry codes.
- Identifying and addressing any deviations from quality standards or specifications.
- Ensuring that all welding work conforms to welding procedure specifications (WPS) and meets code requirements.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), adherence to lockout/tagout procedures, and compliance with relevant safety regulations.
- Follow applicable codes, standards, and regulations governing instrumentation and electrical work.
- Conduct risk/hazard and equipment assessments and implement mitigation measures to minimize hazards associated with instrumentation activities.
- Stay updated with industry best practices and safety guidelines to ensure continuous compliance.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT (Weighting 15%)
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, supervisors, and other stakeholders, to ensure effective communication and coordination in executing structural welding-related tasks.
- Act as a liaison between different departments to facilitate smooth workflow and resolve technical issues.
- Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues as required.
Training & Mentorship
- Share knowledge and guide junior technicians or apprentices within the Fabrication Shop.
- Assist in training programs and mentorship initiatives to support the development of less experienced team members.
- Seek opportunities for continuous improvement in work processes and procedures.
- Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Journeyman Certification: Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program and attainment of a Journeyman Millwright certification or equivalent is required.
- Previous experience working in an O&G manufacturing environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding/fabrication techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex piping issues.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to pipefitting work.
- Good physical condition and stamina to perform manual labor and work in various conditions.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
